Hello everyone! Our past couple have weeks have been extremely packed full, in a very exciting way. My team and I accomplished so much. We presented our presentation a second time, with newly made adjustments to our slideshow. The kids also seemed highly engaged in this as well, and it was very encouraging to listen to their questions after the slideshow! The kids seemed most engaged when we applied real life examples to our slideshow. The teacher interviews were a huge hit! The kids highly enjoyed those, and even laughed at the funny moments! I think after much thought and consideration, this project did make an impact. My team and I got to see the faces of kids, that now had new information about high school. We saw that they really were interested in that information, and they were going to apply that to when they enter high school. I am so proud of how much progress my team and I have made, and we have even grown closer because of it! We now have a new type of respect for each other, because we all got to see how we helped the kids we presented to. I am so proud, and overall, we did an amazing job!

Hello everyone! Our project has been very organized lately. We had everything perfectly organized for our presentations and we even practiced before. Practicing before was extremely important because it better prepared us to present to a group of middle schoolers. I know that my team and I were extremely grateful to have the amount of preparation time that we did. Our presentation actually went very well! We arrived at our first school we were presenting, and it went very smoothly. The principle was extremely welcoming and very respectful towards us. HE treated us like adults! He even offered Kaylyn a chair when she was standing in the office. I think that amount of kindness that he expressed us, made us all very comfortable to present! While presenting, we had seen the faces of the middle-schoolers, and they seemed highly engaged in the presentation, and seemed like they really retained the knowledge that we taught them! This was very exciting for my team and I. Our main goal for this presentation was to get them engaged, and it worked!
Hi guys! This week has been very eventful. My team and I have focused on tying up the loose ends of our presentation. We have been making an effort to get all of our interviews done, and with this amount of energy we have for the interviews, I think it will carry over our presentations. We have been focusing a lot on the big day, which is our final presentation. We’re trying to figure out the best way to show our presentation, but not present it. We want to get the message across of what we’re trying to present. We are thinking taking pictures from our presentations and displaying the pictures during our final presentation. We have been trying to keep in contact with the schools in order to keep it all organized, and to keep lines of communication open in clear to avert any miscommunication that we might have with the schools. We are trying to keep this project rolling, and as smooth and prepared as possible. The plan for our team is to keep an optimistic attitude and hold our heads high through any hardship we might have. My team and I have been very successful this week and we’re hoping the rest of our project follows in line.
In 2018, our project accomplished a lot of good things in order for this project to proceed smoothly. We started this whole idea by looking through our past and what we personally struggled with. There was one thing we all had in common, and that was private school. We thought of ways that we personally could help kids that are in our shoes. We didn’t want them to be as scared as we were when we first started public school. At first, we were all very confused on what to do, so we just prepared our presentation and put it together. Little did we know that this was going to benefit us in the future. We now know that was an excellent idea, because now we can send our presentation to the school principles who’d like to view it to make sure it’s appropriate for their students. I think it’s amazing how well my group and I mesh together. We have had this original idea for the whole way, and through all the bumps, all of us have never managed to give up, and if anything, we give each other encouragement to continue forward with the project that we have created. I never had a specific role in this project, however, I just did the small things that sunk through the cracks, that my team may have never caught. I would have never been able to do this without my team, because they are truly the best you can ask for. Today, we are just preparing for our presentation days to come. We are nervous; however, we are confident that our presentation is prepared perfectly. The idea hasn’t changed, even throughout all of our hardships. My current role today would still have to be doing thing that slip through the cracks. My team and I are very excited for the future. Our goal for April 30th is not only to have everything finished but to make a difference for the children we are showing our presentation to. We don’t want to just show a presentation and leave, we want to leave a mark on these kids, not only to help them mentally, but emotionally as well. I plan on paying attention to the small things in order to really seal off the ends of this project. I have a feeling that this is going to be a good rest of the school year for this project!
Hello everyone! I hope your week has been as great as my team and I’s week was. We got so much accomplished this week! We decided to do interviews with our teachers to display on a board for our presentation. We thought that this would be a good way to show the kids the non-scary side of school. I’ve learned through experience that kids are really scared to go into classes because they are not only intimidated of the teachers but also intimidated of the class. We wanted to show the kids that our teachers are so fun, and there is nothing to be intimidated of. We overall want to show kids that high school shouldn’t be intimidating. We think that showing kids the teachers beforehand will give them a good understanding of what the teachers are like. I believe that the kids won’t feel as intimidated for the classes though our presentation. One of my biggest fears was the classes and teachers. I was afraid of them because I wasn’t sure of what they were like. I’m very excited to show kids the interviews and see the outcome of what the students’ thoughts and opinions are like. We conducted our interviews with Mr. Gruen, our honors geometry teacher, Mr. Lemond, our civics teacher, and Miss. Rudloff, an art teacher at the school. They all answered the questions very well and the kids will enjoy seeing the teachers that they might have. This week was a huge success and I can’t wait to see what next week has to bring!
Hello everyone! This week has been very successful! My team and I did a number of things to improve our project this week. First of all, we worked on bettering our website in multiple ways. We did this by working on all aspects of our pages. We updated our "About Us" page and we wrote about ourselves to make sure that people knew us a little better. We felt that would make people more comfortable with us and trust us more. We also felt that we should tell people more about ourselves that way they could get a sense of our personalities, and also know why we started this project in the first place besides making a difference. We also updated our home page by putting in different pictures to show that we are more serious about our project. We plan on putting a picture of ourselves on our home page as well that way people can know what we look like. We think that a picture would help people get to know us a little better. Even though our picture isn't a requirement, I think it would make us look a lot more professional, and we really want people to take us seriously. One of our major fears is being seen as unprincipled and childish. I think that because of our age, we are all really scared of not being taken seriously. We want people to know that we are here to be serious, and to do a good job. Those were the major things we did this week for our project.
Hello, I'm Emily. I am a freshman at Civic Memorial High School. I'm currently part of a bigger team, High School Helping Hand. Our plan is to visit private middle schools and teach kids the importance of high school, and also the transition of private school to public school. We plan on bringing in 7th and 8th graders to view the presentation, because we believe it is never too early to start high school preparation. We also believe that teaching them the importance will help them start practicing these habits early. This week I focused on getting in touch with a school principal to make sure our presentation was school appropriate but to also make sure that it was okay for us to do our presentation at the school. So far, we have not had a response back. My team and I are working on bettering our presentation in hopes that we not only get the best response from the students, but to also best install the message of high school preparation and importance. My team and I are working extremely hard to make this project the best that it can be by improving our website, communication, and keeping or weekly schedules together. We are trying to make our website the best it can be in order to reach our bigger audience, the middle school students. My team and I are communicating to each other in a great way in order to make this project the best it can be. This week went very smoothly!
